Okay, so we all know that jerks, aka douches, are the modern woman’s kryptonite. We don’t even need to define what a jerk is for you. You just know one when you see one. You’re probably even friends with one and still find yourself marveling at the number of girls willing to date him. There probably isn’t a heterosexual woman alive who has not dated or been attracted to one. Let’s make it clear upfront that we’re not recommending that you actually act like a jerk. It’s just that jerks know three hard and fast rules for hitting on women, and it wouldn’t hurt to learn a thing or two from them.

Don’t be Too Polite

We’re not saying you should be rude to her, but you shouldn’t be so polite that you remind her of her dentist. You want to keep the pace going and make it harder for her to lose interest. So if you’re messaging her, or chatting her up in person, skip most of the small chat and get right to the point. Don’t waste time talking about bands she likes. Propose an event, day and time for you two to meet up. This will work for more women than you think. A woman who would otherwise use the time you usually spend on small talk to come up with reasons to pass you over for the next guy might be thrown off balance enough to say yes to an invitation and let you get close to her.

Don’t Compliment Her Right Away

So let’s say you come across the profile of a woman you’d like to hook up with. When you pm her, don’t come across too heavy by complimenting her on her looks or her body. You might think you’re scoring points by telling her she has a pretty face, but the truth is that’s kind of a worn out line from her point of view. We guarantee every other guy contacting her is telling her how gorgeous she is. The first contact you have with her needs to tell her something about yourself. You need to make yourself stand out. If you’re the kind of guy who’s concerned about being nice, just realize that she already knows if you’re contacting her that you’re interested in her. So save your compliments for later when you have her attention and you’re no longer just a nameless guy.

Be Prepared to Walk Away

When a jerk hits on a woman he makes it clear that it’s no skin off his nose and that he has other options. In negotiations, that’s called a BATNA or Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement. In real talk, that’s called being prepared to walk away. It ties in to the point above – you don’t want to seem desperate. It might be hard – this girl might have curves that make you weak in the knees, but if you approach her with the attitude that you MUST have her, you’ll be giving away the upper hand automatically.
