For the man cohabitating with others, things can be rough. You have to put up with their music, their dishes, and their hogging of the bathroom. On top of all that, they may be an obstacle in your being able to bring women home, girlfriends and hookups alike. What’s a guy to do when their housemate has put their foot down on you bringing women home for the night?

First off, Find out Why the Ban’s in Place

Are they concerned about noise, or people coming and going in the middle of the night? Assure them that you’ll keep things down, and make sure your lady friends stick to that deal. There’s always her place or a hotel if she’s naturally loud. If your housemate is concerned about people roaming around in the middle of the night, try asking your hookups to spend the night. They’ll likely appreciate not having to call a taxi at midnight in some strange location, anyway.

Perhaps your housemate is concerned about the very idea of a lady in the house to begin with. You might be able to sympathize with his concerns. More than a few guys have had the bad experience of a housemate whose girlfriend essentially moved in, using the utilities and eating all the food without having to pay rent. If you’re looking to bring hookups home, this obviously won’t be happening, but then your housemate might not be totally into the idea of a potentially drunk stranger that you’ve only known for a few hours tops wandering around the place in the wee hours of the morning. Again, you might be able to sympathize with his concerns. Let your housemate know that you’re not planning on letting these women become new tenants, and that you won’t be letting them wander around the house unattended while they’re there. Schedule specific days where you’ll be bringing women home, so your housemate will always have a fair enough warning to expect a guest in the place. Make good on these promises, or else your housemate’s cooperation will be short-lived.

To sweeten the deal, try taking on some more household responsibilities. If your housemate hates doing the dishes, become the new dishboy. Mow the lawn without being asked, walk his dog, and so on. On those Hookup Days you both agreed on above, try treating your housemate to his favorite takeout. He’ll soon catch on that his cooperation in this effort is only going to be to his advantage.

Still, you might find that your housemate continues to resist the idea. Bringing women home anyway will only spell needless strife between you, and make your living situation the rest of the time miserable. At this point, try just going to her place, or checking into a hotel room. And of course, there’s always the option to move out. Just don’t move back in with your parents. They definitely won’t be any more sympathetic to your hookup needs.
